Back then, the term social media didn’t really exist yet. There was MySpace and various internet forums where nerds and geeks met, discussed things, fell in love, and sometimes hated each other. It must have been around the year the record Aufstieg Und Fall Der Gruppe Sport was released — 2006 — when two friends from those forums or from MySpace introduced me to the band Sport from Hamburg, Germany. Once I had found my own place in the music circus as a writer, I was lucky enough to see the band many times and to get to know and love them. An eternal favorite band — which I told them many times in a not-so-sober state.

Their last studio album dates back to 2012 (Aus Der Asche, Aus Dem Staub). The most recent record was the rarities compilation Paint It Black from 2022. In the same year, bassist Christian Smukal passed away.
